Medical Genetics
Medical Genetics is the science of human biological variations as it relates to health and disease.
Medical Genetics includes:
- the studies of the pattern of inheritance of diseases in families
- the mapping of disease genes to specific chromosomal locations
Medical Genetics analyses molecular mechanisms through which genes cause diseases and the diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases.Medical Genetics also plays a role in genetic counselling: the communication of information regarding risks, prognoses and treatment to patient and families.
